You know it's just a bike right?

Living here in Chicago has many perks and one is being able to get around so easily on bicycle. Since I generally can't (or won't) stomach the CTA. I like to jump on my bike and get where I have to go especially while the weather is nice. What I really would like to know is who are these fellow cyclists in a such a hurry? I'm not talking about the guys with 2,400 dollar, super lightweight, aluminum, European editions. The "speedsters" I speak of are these everyday joe's who are in a suit, with their slacks tied up to not get caught in the chain with a basket on the front to pick milk for the wife. Personally I enjoy going at a safe enough speed so I can take in some sites to and from home, feel the wind on face and avoid a possible "dooring" from a cab or anyone not paying attention. I have had riders jump in front of me and ride with a true and concentrated effort to get way in front of me just to be met at the red light. I usually just roll up with the Ipod attached to my ears bumping whatever music choice of the day is and just look at them with a "really?" look. They usually either do the same thing again when the light turns green or look away sheepishly as if they know they just made a vehicular clown out of themselves. The next level of idiocy is the daredevil. You've seen them. Darting in between cars before the light turns green, weaving back and forth through traffic because they're SO FAST! I have seen some daredevils get clipped or wipeout. Is wrong when a small smirk goes across my face. I mean I know my lane (literally) It's just a bike.

TOP 10 THINGS TO NEVER SAY TO A DJ

Top ten things you should never say to a DJ:

1. PLAY SOMETHING GOOD...SOMETHING WE CAN DANCE TO !
The DJ has to play for more than one person...so what you hate may be another's favorite song and EVERYTHING played here can be danced to one way or another.

2. WOULD YOU PLAY SOMETHING WITH A "BEAT" !
BE SERIOUS! We know of NO songs played in a club that don't have some sort of BEAT!

3. I DON'T KNOW WHO SINGS IT AND I DON'T KNOW THE NAME OF THE SONG, BUT IT GOES LIKE THIS....
PLEASE don't sing for the DJ. They have to put up with smoke filled rooms and dangerous decibel levels all night long...Do them a favor and DON'T give them a rendition of your favorite song.

4. EVERYBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT !
Oh, sure... you polled everyone in the club and, as their spokesperson, you're requesting the song.

5. EVERYBODY WILL DANCE IF YOU PLAY IT !
The DJ won't. I guess that blows a hole in that theory!

6. I CAN GET LAID IF YOU PLAY IT !
Why settle for one night? Buy the album and get laid for a whole month!

7. I WANT TO HEAR IT NEXT !
The ONLY people who can get away with that statement write the DJ's paycheck!

8. WHAT DO YOU HAVE ?
It's a lot easier for you to go have another beer and figure out what you want to hear than it is for the DJ to recite the name of every record in the booth!

9. HEY, MAN, NOBODY CAN DANCE TO THIS !
It's NOT advisable to say this when the dance floor is packed (but some people do anyway) ! HOWEVER, even if there is only ONE person on the floor, it STILL contradicts the statement!

10. PLAY IT SOON, BECAUSE WE'RE LEAVING !
If your gonna leave after he plays it, why shouldn't he wait till the very last song so you stay all night!

SOME ASSORTED THINGS NOT TO SAY TO A DJ:
1. If you ask for a song and the DJ says he just played it, DON’T SAY "Well I just got here." It makes absolutely no difference.

2. DON’T SAY "Is this the only music you play?" If you go to a Chinese restaurant, you wouldn’t ask for Italian food.

3. If you ask for a song...BE SPECIFIC. DON’T SAY "I wanna hear something....anything but this!" Try going to the bar and saying,
"I wanna drink something....anything but this..." You can’t complain if you're not SPECIFIC.

4. HOWEVER, if you are specific and the DJ says he doesn’t have that song, DON’T SAY "What!?!? What do you mean you don’t have it? what kind of DJ are you? HE MAY SHOOT YOU!!!!!

5. SPECIAL NOTE! A night club DJ gets very little RESPECT. They are expected to play everything for everybody. It is impossible to satisfy all of the people all of the time, yet club DJs are expected to do just that. If a radio DJ tells his listeners a song is a hit, the majority of the people figure it must be "Because they say so on the radio." However 80% of the time that same song was being played in a club long before radio DISCOVERED the NEW song.

So give the DJ a break! The next time you request a song, stop and THINK before you speak.

And above all....if the DJ has one hand on the mixing board, one hand on the turntable, and the headphones on....Don’t bug him

....HE’S MIXING!!!!

The Store 123DJ-Not a Good time!!

Sorry They got no love!!! I went there on a sat afternoon hoping to buy a new Rane Mixer to go with my Serato System. I myself work in customer service in a MUCH busier environment and I know it doesn't take a lot to say "hello." First of all got there and it was on the fourth floor with now working elevator in sight. I thought to myself "OK, I guess it is a warehouse" So I climbed the stairs only to find a locked door which i had to ring a door bell to be buzzed in. (have a lot of trouble there?) So when I walk in the first thing i notice is a guy on the phone who doesn't look at me, acknowledge or nod. I again gave the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was quite busy although just from over hearing him talk didn't sound much like business talked. So I walked around and ended up in this room full of speakers with a smog machine(s) on. It was dark, with fog and i couldn't see a thing. I hope this was not a selling point. It made want to buy a flashlight. So I walked around, looked at some mixers still no interaction with the workers there. Some walked past me carrying boxes and made themselves unavailable. So I just hung out by the mixers behind the counter. took out my blackberry and looked at the mixer I wanted to buy. No help. I took another lap around the store two guys walked in and the workers stopped and started speaking them in Spanish. I'm assuming they knew them. which still is no excuse for bad customer service. So lastly I went back to the counter and began to count the money in my pocket, took another lap around the store and no one said ANYTHING to me!! So I had enough and took my business and cash with me. So congrats 123dj. you just missed out on a potential 800 dollar sale because you don't know how to say "hello." No Biz, money or return visits for you!

Lebron the Villian?

Ok. I'm trying to figure this out. If he would have stayed in Cleveland, he would have been "chicken" and money hungry. When he leaves he's a guy who is conflicted and turned his back on his town for a "party." It's truly sad that a young man like Lebron can't make a decision without being over analyzed at every waking moment. I don't think that Jordan had this much pressure put on him. My God. It was HIS choice. People are burning jerseys. Burning jerseys?? Come on. He doesn't owe the state of Ohio anything. He could wait as long as he pleased. That's his right. If he would have told them right after the playoffs would it have been any better? Oh well this way Cleveland could have looked for talent right? Who was going there. It's ok I'll wait for the answer. Yea That's what I thought. All he did was take them deep into the playoffs and the NBA finals. Maybe he should have kept doing that? I don't blame him. It's not about money. It was obvious he could have gotten more money. He wants to win. Bottom line. It's not personal. It's about winning. All his favorite teams growing up the 90's Bulls, The Yankees, The Cowboys were all about winning. In high school all he did was win. That's what he lives for. I heard someone say He "needs" Wade to win. And? Every superstar needs someone. Micheal Had Pippen.Magic Had Kareem and Worthy. Bird had Parrish and Mchale. Charles Barkley said if he leaves Cleveland he won't be the man. We Chuck was the man for years and you see what that got him. It's fine to be disappointed he left but don't be disillusioned by the reason.

More Tiger,Tiger,Tiger..

So now all folks wanna talk about is his bulging disc. Wow. Did he quit? Is he cheating? Who cares? Is this REALLY a story?? My God. Pro athletes already dominate our weekend. Do we really need them in the news EVERYDAY over some bull crap. I mean people actually get emotional about Tiger and his indiscretions. Really? That's all you have to do with your life. If that's the case you might as well hate every pro athlete, politician, actor, nightclub owner and any male around women who will sleep with them. Let. It. Go. This is such a dead issue. Why is this such a intricate part of our lives. Don't we have health care, the middle east war, teen murders and aids to worry about? Tiger is not losing sleep over any of you. Why are you so adamant about bringing him down? It baffles me.

The 40yr Old Rapper

I have always had a problem with age and Hip Hop. "To be fair and honest no one wants to hear a middle aged dude rhyme" Really? Who did you ask? What if you close you eyes and just listen to the music? Would that make a difference? It's crazy. You can be a old DJ. ( Jazzy Jeff, Kid Capri) and old producer (Dre, Primo, Tim, Pete Rock) or an old Graff writer(Futura,BG183) . God forbid if you have something to say as an elder spokesman for Hip Hop. Are you crazy?? Microphones were only invented for people 25 and younger. This is a culture. You don't grow out of your culture. If you can sing you can sing. If you can play a instrument, you can play a instrument. Why can't someone who's "older" say rhymes to a beat? Sometimes it's not about pleasing the youth. I think that has become a problem with Hip Hop. Every other form of music has so much respect for their elder acts. With Hip Hop as soon as you turn 30 you suck. It's pretty sad. I'm glad Cube said what he said stunt or not. He still can rap circles around most of these new "mc's" and that maybe what they fear the most.

The Ultimate Sports day

This only happens once  a year. It's basically a perfect storm when it comes to sports. It's opening day for MLB. It's the Finals for the NCAA championship for college basketball and finally the Masters begin today the world's most prestigious golf tournament. The main fact that Tiger Woods is returning after his Thanksgiving escapades is worth the price or admission alone. If you love sports this is the day for you. The only thing missing is a football game. I know I have been glued to the television al day and I don't foresee any let up in this. Ladies if you remember how your man (was) is during the Superbowl consider this a warm up for next year in February. Try and take it easy on him. This doesn't happen often>

Springtime? Maybe.....

OK.... so It got to be near 60 today in Chicago. That could mean a few things. Either spring is officially here or the weird weather in the Chi is messing with our collective minds again. I mean I know the winter wasn't that bad. How do I know? Not once did I need my mittens!! I only pull them out when my hands just can't freaking take it anymore! Today was a indication that Chicagoans are total whiny babies (including myself) I seen a lot more bikes out, a lot more slow walking around by couples and babies in open strollers. I heard folks saying "OMG winter was SO bad!!" I'm glad it's warm. "Warm?" Really? Let's hope it stay this way but as this is Chicago. There's a old saying "If you don't like the weather in Chicago....Just wait a mintue" My clock is set.

Tiger,Tiger,Tiger

Never have seen so much hoopla, attention and media as I did concerning Tiger Woods and his infidelity. It's gotten to the point of "Really..who cares?" Let's not being to act as if you really thought Tiger was a straight laced guy who NEVER did anything wrong. Grow up people. 1. He's a pro athlete. This is what they do.2. He's a human being. It's amazing how much stock, hope and faith fans put in the stock of a public figure. Some were shocked by actions. Anyone with a sense of reality did not. Tiger is not a God. He doesn't have superpowers. He a regular kid who knows the game of golf very well. If Tiger is such a villain you may want to look at your father, your brother, your uncle or any random male that you know cheating on his mate. Take a step back, look around and let Mr. Woods deal with his problem.

Damn u Serato

Yeeeeeeeeeeeea I know Serato is great. You don't have to carry record, got all your music with you blah, blah. It's really been a bit of a headache since I got it. I mean so many bugs. It won't work unless you got this plugged in this way, you gotta have it set this way, oh it won't accept all music files. You have to do this and that to record your mix. I mean damn. This is supposed to be the future of djing. Suppose to make things easier. I know some still use wax and Serato but me the "car-less" wonder had to make a choice. Keep carrying records and not have everything I wanted with me and bump people on public trans or switch to what 85% of dj's are using. I really almost feel like bumping someone again with the vinyl. I guess after a while I'll get used to it but I'm beginning to long for the kinder ,simpler days of analog.
